One 14-year-old youth was discovered deceased just days following being wrongly accused of taking the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's parents found his body in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The investigation learned how his parent received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The message stated: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my flat."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the media, claiming her baby's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later concluded the alleged break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed stolen remains attracted social media responses, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really distressing", she stated.

Emotional Health Impact

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views genuinely were important to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".

The teenager was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not contacted the relatives by the time of his death.

Withdrawal and Worry

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child told her he had gone into the house because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Digital Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied online after the allegations.

The inquest heard that one young adult urged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he died, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The hearing received testimony from school staff at Connah's Quay High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some boys discussing that the student had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang the family's parents' telephone and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The court heard his parents said they never receive that message.

Formal Conclusion

Senior coroner told the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely untruths were afterwards embellished and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and after his interview he was released while investigations proceeded."

The coroner determined: "There is no proof that the acts or omissions of any agency led to or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is not possible to determine his intent."
