Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a potentially fatal accident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two safety personnel darted across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event took place on the third lap when track officials were observed on the racing surface as Lawson was rejoining the race following an quick visit to the pits to swap his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson radioed to his pit wall engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Could you believe what happened? I might have... taken their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was observing"

"I came out on a brand new hard tyres, and then I arrived at Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two guys sprinting across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, honestly, it was so dangerous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a failure in communication at some point but I've never experienced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a ongoing race track safety personnel can be allowed to just sprint across the track in such a way. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm sure we'll get some sort of explanation, but this must never be repeated"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

F1's overseeing organization, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is thoroughly reviewing the events

"After an occurrence at turn one, the race directors was informed that wreckage remained on the track at the critical section of that bend" commented the regulatory authority

"On lap three, marshals were informed and placed on standby to access the circuit and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had made a pit stop, the instructions to dispatch marshals were canceled and a double yellow flag was shown in that section"

"The examination is ongoing what transpired following that moment"
