Diving into an Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Turdy Character on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have found a variety of entertaining indie games. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is actually a piece of poop striving to make its way to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: press a jump control. Throughout numerous levels, you'll face boss fights and access a shop to purchase customizations for your dung hero.

Time your movements carefully, as a wrong move forces beginning again. Leap on floating orbs to propel the poop higher, cross disappearing surfaces, and activate switches to unlock hidden paths. Collect coins and use them on challenging game content as the action ramps up.

Graphically, the experience boasts neon environments and a killer music score. The simple visual style featuring shifting basic polygons may remind fans of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though hard to name previous releases where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently featured toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from protagonist excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as fertilizer. And of course, this theme is present heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned notable accolades, including being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is available at present on Steam, with the final release planned to launch on Steam on November 19.
